Dab Pens

Dab pens are a specific type of vaporizer designed to be used with concentrates like wax, rosin, shatter, and more. Dab pens are a popular choice in the UK because of their portability and discreetness.

Sometimes known as wax pens, concentrate pens, or shatter pens, these dabbing devices have been created with simplicity and usability in mind.

Best Features of Dab Pens

Light, Portable, and Discreet

Dab pens are a convenient alternative to the traditional method of consuming concentrates with a dab rig. Dab rigs are large, heavy, and cumbersome; even the smallest rigs require planning if you intend to travel with one. Add to that the bulky torch you must carry to heat them, and they’re no longer worth lugging around.

So many people are choosing dab pens in the UK because they can easily be carried in your pocket without anyone noticing. You can take a quick puff and put it away without being seen.

Easy Dosing

Dab rigs can be a ton of fun, but they generally only produce massive hits. This gets you blasted, which perhaps isn’t always what you want. Even if you try to take a small amount, getting the correct dose is tough. You can easily take as much or as little as you need with a dab pen.

Concentrates aren’t cheap, so dab pens are the way to go if you want to conserve your supply. When using a rig, everything on your dab tool is gone in one shot. Dab pens can stretch that same amount over multiple hits, saving you money.

Reduced Smell

Nothing you vape or smoke will be completely odourless, but dab pens are as close as you can get to being smell-free. The laws and stigma in the UK aren’t always in your favour, so keeping your habit on the down low can only be a good thing.

The little smell they create dissipates quickly. This means you don’t have to worry about unexpected guests showing up and catching a whiff of what you were doing.

Multiple Atomizer and Coil Configurations

One of the main components of dab pens is the atomizer. An atomizer is the pen’s heating element, the part that heats your concentrate and turns it into vapour. The two most common types of atomizers are coiled and bucket.

Coiled atomizers offer fast heat-up times and are preferred for producing huge clouds of vapour. Bucket atomizers heat more slowly but provide a superior flavour experience. They also use your concentrate more efficiently.

Coils are typically made from either quartz or ceramic. Both materials have advantages over the other. Quartz coils heat up faster and can create the largest vape clouds, but they are more brittle than their ceramic counterpart.

Ceramic coils take a bit longer to reach the desired temperature but retain the heat longer. This means you don’t have to wait as long between hits. They also have a longer lifespan and won’t have to be replaced nearly as often.

Easy to Use

Dab pens were designed from the ground up with convenience in mind. Using a dab pen is a simple process that even first-timers can master immediately. Just follow these easy steps:

  1. Scoop out your desired amount of concentrate with your dab tool. It might take some experience to figure out how much you need, but it doesn’t matter too much as long as you don’t overload it.
  2. Place your concentrate in the atomizer. Try to avoid getting any stuck to the side. It’s not a big problem if you do; it just works better if the entire glob is centered in the middle.
  3. Turn on your dab pen. For most brands, this is done by pressing the power button five times in quick succession. The reason for this is to avoid accidentally turning it on inside of your pocket.
  4. Choose your desired temperature mode. Most pens have at least low, medium, and high temperature settings. This is usually done by clicking the power button three times in quick succession. There will be an indicator to tell you which mode you have selected.
  5. Heat up your dab pen. Most times, this is done by holding down the power button. Wait a couple of seconds, and then start drawing on the mouthpiece. Release the button when you’ve finished your hit and repeat as desired. To power off the vape, press the power button five times.

These are the most common instructions, but they can vary slightly depending on the model you have. Always check the included user manual for complete directions and descriptions of any available features.

Dab Pens Vs Vape Pens

While dab pens and vape pens might sound like different names for the same thing, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Vape pens use oil cartridges instead of concentrates. These cartridges usually contain either THC or nicotine, but they also contain other questionable chemicals.

Legitimate concentrates used in dab pens are much more pure. This makes it easier to know what you’re putting into your body. Also, vape cartridges are diluted in such a way as to make you overpay for the amount of product you receive.
