Bubblers are a cross-over of a bong and a pipe: typically smaller than bongs, bubblers still use water for filtration, but have the advantage of portability like a smoking pipe. The vast majority of the bubblers for sale on Everyone Does It are made of tough, durable borosilicate glass and are purpose built for taking on your travels.
In recent years we have seen the rise of the concentrate bubbler or oil rig - these dedicated glass dab rigs are equipped with concentrate nails and vapour domes as opposed to conventional bowls or slides.
A bubbler is a small, hand-held device that looks like something in between a bong and a pipe.
The main difference between a bubbler and a regular water bong is their size - bubblers are smaller, portable versions of their bigger brother, and are often referred to as mini bongs. And just like regular bongs, bubblers have a water chamber, with the water working as a filter to produce a clean and smooth hit of smoke. This water filtration system is what sets bubblers apart from regular spoon pipes.
Some bubblers will also come with a percolator, which acts as another level of filtration and diffusion on top of the water chamber. All of this means that bubblers offer an overall better smoking experience than pipes, and a more easy-to-use and discreet way of smoking your dry herbs compared to a bong.
How to use a bubbler bong
Using a bubbler is pretty straightforward, and anyone who has ever used a bong before will get to grips with bubbler pipes fairly quickly. Essential, the process is the same - to use your bubbler just follow these simple steps:
Start by adding a small amount of water to the water chamber. You need to make sure there is enough water in the chamber for bubbles to be formed, but not too much so that you end up with splashback or a mouthful of bong water.
You can then fill the bowl with your dry herbs. Make sure you grind your herbs before using them in a bubbler, but also try to not pack them too tightly into the bowl, so that the air can move freely around it when you inhale.
It’s now time to light your dry herbs. If your bubbler has a carburetor, or carb hole, then make sure to place your finger on this as you spark your herbs. As you’re doing this, slowly inhale via the mouthpiece, and you’ll see the smoke travelling through the bubbles and up the neck into your lungs. Once you’ve taken your desired hit, simply exhale and start again.
Once you’ve finished your session, it’s important to clean your bubbler in order to maintain its longevity and the quality of the smoke it produces. The most important thing is the bowl itself - and remember to clear the water chamber!
Types of bubbler bong
When looking for a bubbler, you’ll come across a few different types. Here at EDIT, we stock a wide range of bubbler bongs in all sorts of materials and styles.
Some of the best-quality products you can get are glass bubblers, which are typically made out of highly-durable and heat-resistant borosicilate glass. This makes them quite sturdy and they should be able to withstand a few drops on the floor, as well as the extreme temperatures it will be exposed to when lighting your herbs, but like any type of glass they can break eventually.
If you want something a bit more durable, then consider silicone bubblers. These are made out a of a super-strong type of plastic, which means they’re almost indestructible. But the trade-off here is that your smoke won’t taste as clean as with a glass bubbler pipe, as silicone contains some impurities which could find their way into the smoke. However, silicone bubblers are typically cheaper than glass ones, while you’ll also be able to choose from much wider range of colours and designs.
You also need to consider what it is you want to smoke. Most bubbler bongs will come with a regular bowl, which is ideal for dry herbs and tobacco. However, if you prefer to smoke oils, wax, or concentrates, then you should go for a bubbler with a banger or dabbing nail. These are typically made out of heat-resistant materials such as quartz or titanium, as the combustion point of concentrates is typically higher than herbs.
Some high-end bubbler pipes will also come with percolators, or percs, which act as an extra level of diffusion, producing an even cooler smoking experience while also looking pretty neat. We also stock double bubblers, which have an extra water chamber which again acts as an extra level of filtration for an all-round better and healthier smoking experience.
Benefits of bubblers
There are many benefits of using a bubbler as opposed to a regular water bong or a dry pipe. However, like any product, there are also some downsides, so it’s important to be aware of both the advantages and disadvantages before committing to purchasing a bubbler bong.
Pros of bubblers
The water chamber and any additional percs act as filters, helping to produce a much cleaner, cooler, and smoother hit of smoke than any regular pipe can.
They are extremely easy to use, especially for experienced bong users.
Their small size means they can be carried around with you on the go, and they’re also much more discreet than a regular bong.
Cons of bubblers
Due to their small size, and their relative lack of removable parts, bubblers can be quite a bit more tricky to clean than big bongs.
They are less customizable than larger-sized bongs, as the only removable component of a bubbler will typically be the bowl piece and downstem.
