Multiple
Sclerosis
Multiple
Sclerosis is a disease of the nervous system that affects many people,
especially young adults. Effects of Multiple Sclerosis can be devastating
& disabling, including muscle stiffness and spasms, pain, fatigue,
tremor & general immobility. There is as yet no cure, but there
are a number of treatments to help relieve symptoms.
Recently
many Multiple Sclerosis sufferers have reported that using
cannabis has helped their symptoms, especially muscle spasms. Some
positive results have been reported in the six published clinical
trials of cannabis or cannabinoids in Multiple Sclerosis, especially
for spasticity, pain & tremor. These effects are currently being
researched (on larger numbers of patients) in Plymouth. The results
are expected mid-2003. More info available at http://www.cannabis-trial.plymouth.ac.uk
One
might wonder whether these benefits might simply be caused by the
feeling of wellbeing related to the intoxicating effects of cannabis.
However, users often report an ability to control the dose to obtain
physical relief without getting high.
