Coffeeshop Betty Boop is a very pleasent shop situated on a large plasza just off nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. In the old days when Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal was still a shipping canal, this plaza was where the ships docked and unloaded goods for distribution throughout Amsterdam. If you look closely at the buildings along the plaza you will see where the walls have been worn by the goods being pulled along them. Weather permitting; you will be able to sit outside on the terrace under umbrella tables where they have seating for 40. The shop is well decorated in warm oak and smoked mirrors with nice lighting and beautiful plant terrariums. Upstairs there is additional seating and 5 computers. Their clientele consists of locals and tourists ages 25 and up. It is a small shop, but the friendly atmosphere and cozy feeeling definitely make up for the small size.
They feature eight varieties of weed and 6 varieties of hash. Their recommendation in weed is the 'Bubble Gum' which has been grown for them by the same grower for the last seven years. They serve coffee, tea and terrific milk shakes, plus a very special hot chocolate. The owner, Jules, is a delightful person who will be happy to inform you about all his varieties as well as the history of the area. So, relax and enjoy the intimate, friendly atmosphere at Betty Boop while listening to a wide variety of listening music.
